Managing Safety in your workplace
You
must manage the health and safety risks in your workplace. To do this
you need to think about what, in your Workplace, might cause danger to
people and decide whether you are doing enough to prevent that danger.
Once you have identified the danger, you need to decide how to control
them and put the appropriate rectification and remediation in place.
A
safety assessment is about identifying sensible measures to control the
danger in your workplace. The law does not expect you to remove all
danger, but to protect people by putting in place measures to control
those risks.
Benefits of Safety Talks
Prior
to work starts on any critical safety job, you are advice to conduct
Safety talk with your work group. Simple and easy conversation IS BETTER
is preferred. You as a Work site supervisor can do this by listening
and talking with your team on:
• health and safety of work to be executed
• how DANGERs are managed;
• the best ways of dealing the work
• First aid and Emergency Response
Safety
talk is a two-way process, allowing worker to highlight and influence
decisions on the management of health and safety. They are often the
best people to understand danger in the workplace. Involving them in
making decisions demonstrate that you take their health and safety
seriously.
